In the Place-Time Continuum of the Threshold

September 19, 2014

Jeanne Bresciani, Ph.D.

Jeanne Bresciani, PhD., is a Fulbright Scholar, teacher, lecturer and performer.  She is Artistic Director and Director of Education of the Isadora Duncan International Institute, Inc., began formal studies in myth at Skidmore College and continuing as an iconographer and Kress Fellow, earned an I.M.A. degree at the Williams College Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in the History of Art.  She holds an I.M.A. degree in Movement Analysis and Imaginal Psychotherapy, a program directed by Debra McCall and supervised by James Hillman, and later as an M.A. in Dance from New York University and graduate faculty there, she completed her Ph.D. on parallels between Duncan and Jung in Myth and Image in the Dance of Isadora Duncan.

The Journey of life is full of many different paths we can choose to follow. We may follow the path of duty, that of freedom and adventure, that of the wanderer, or any other path of our own creation. Each of these infinite paths, however, come with many twists and turns; what one may call thresholds places of transition that we must learn to apprehend, enter, pass through, and exit. They are moments in our lives when we must make decisions; where we must deeply consider our next footstep. How do we traverse these junctures? There are many metaphors and myths that help us to understand these profound moments in our lives. From philosophy to art, and music to dance, many before us have asked this same question. Through the study of these ideas, and through our own movements and motions, we will seek a better understanding of The Threshold.
